Trucks Off Our Steets (TOOS)
Fighting for safe streets and clean air in every Detroit neighborhood.
The Trucks Off Our Streets (TOOS) Coalition is a citywide group working to reduce residential truck traffic and improve air quality across Detroit. Formed in summer 2024 with support from the Fred and Barbara Erb Family Foundation, TOOS works in partnership with Community Action Plan for Healthy Environments through the University of Michigan to connect residents, community organizations, and city leaders from all seven Detroit districts.
TOOS is united in the push for citywide truck route policies as members employ their collective power to reach over 35,000 residents across Detroit, conduct community-led truck counts and industrial monitoring that began in the 1980s, mobilize residents to engage in permit hearings, and educate decision-makers about the health impacts of truck traffic and industrial pollution, such as fugitive dust.
We fight for a Detroit where the streets are safe, the air is clean, and the voices of residents drive the city’s decisions.
Trucks do not belong on residential streets.
Learn about our work to implement a Truck Route Ordinance (TRO)
A Truck Route Ordinance (TRO) is a local law that designates specific roads within a city or municipality as permissible routes for commercial trucks. By directing heavy traffic away from residential streets, a TRO protects neighborhood air quality, reduces noise and safety risks, and preserves our roads.
Detroit residents deserve access to real-time data about truck traffic and air pollution.
