The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer (“ED/CEO”) of Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision (“SDEV”) provides strategic leadership with the direction of the Board of Directors (“Board”). In that capacity, the ED/CEO is responsible for upholding the vision and values of SDEV.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be the spokesperson for SDEV:
    • Present our vision/core values to the community to increase local awareness and engagement
    • Use multimedia platform (TV/News Outlets/Radio/Internet/Other) to advance our core values, challenge local environmental issues, and improve the lives of people in Southwest Detroit
    • Attend city-wide meetings to engage key stakeholders and other charitable organizations
    • Train community organizers to engage with locals to hear and address their concerns
  • Supervision and/or oversight of all SDEV staff, contractors, and volunteers
  • Lead strategic and operational long-range planning in partnership with the Board and staff. As part of this process, review and refresh agency mission, vision, and major policies
  • Work with staff to identify and advance projects and grants consistent with our core values while following necessary compliance processes
  • Serve as final editor with respect to grant applications
  • Develop SDEV financial plan and budget in conjunction with key staff and the Executive Committee. Present the final plan for review and approval of the Board. Monitor the plan and budget on a monthly basis
  • Serve as the primary staff contact to the Board. Ensure timely and accurate communication with the Board related to all agency work – staffing, programs, fiscal position, fundraising objectives
  • Engage with existing donors while searching out new donors to support the fundraising activities
  • Bring new & big picture ideas to SDEV, foster a great work environment, and be the leader that others want to follow

Work Schedule:  The position is full time requiring varying shifts Monday through Friday, including possible evening, Saturday and Sunday commitments, to cover business operations. This is a salaried position and regardless of how many hours worked (whether it is 40 hours more or less).

Requirements:

  1. Experience in nonprofit management and operations including fund development, fiscal responsibility, and accountability
  2. Strong commitment to developing programs and services in response to changing community and client needs
  3. Fluent in Spanish and English
  4. Familiarity and influence in Southwest Detroit
  5. Knowledgeable in environmental issues
