Dolores is Southwest Detroit native and a recent graduate of Michigan State University where she studied Environmental Studies and Sustainability Sciences through the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Dolores’ passion for environmental justice sparked her interest in urban agriculture and environmental science as a high schooler where she began volunteering at a Cadillac Urban Gardens in Mexicantown at the age of 15. Dolores now works closely with the Southwest Detroit community to develop and sustain green placemaking projects as well as helps facilitate sustainability-based research in partnership with local highs schools and universities. As a current graduate student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Dolores hopes to use her dual Master of Science in Environment & Sustainability and Master of Urban & Regional Planning in Urban & Regional Planning with a focus in Land Use and Environmental Planning to bring about positive change to her community.
